Self-Defense is an art

Martial art is a technique of self-defense from enemies around. Judo karate, Tae Kwondo, etc also come under the same category. These are techniques developed in ancient times. It involves various hands and legs movement to strike or cut short an opponent’s attack. These are skills that are needed to be inculcated right from the childhood. This is not just a fighting technique. These skills have an impact on the total body. Mind gets sharp, attentive and gets prepared to take challenges. Body gets strong, develops quick reflexes and a fit outlook. Our mind power is more important than musclepower. If a person is weak in reacting to a stimulus then no matter how strong he is from inside, damage will be done. So, body and mind power together prepares us to face any challenges in life.

You have to be cautious enough every time you get out. Your eyes and ears should be open to take account of every little detail surrounding you.

Here are some tips to practice for self defense:

You have to be alert all the time. Never be negligent to any sign of trouble. You may have to cry afterwards. Being alert is utmost important to take control of the situation and defend yourself against an attack. Women especially should follow this as they are easy victims of harassment.

Confidence should always be high regardless of your state of mind. People who are not confident already lose half the battle. Confidence shows in your total outlook. It gives the opponent a sign that you are ready to confront him/her. Being calm and confident will force the offender to guess twice about your moves. This will surely give an extra edge in the situation.

Self defense should be well carried. You can never always be sure of your muscle power. Keeping some handy weapons can do the trick without much hassle. For e.g. you can keep a pepper spray to be used against a person following you or trying to stop you. But be sure that you can retrieve it before any harm is done. For this your alertness and confidence will play a major role.

Training should be done according to the needs of the body and situation. Training differs for a man and woman. Women have to train themselves against opponents who may be comparatively heavier. They should train with weights and do cardio-vascular exercises.

Don’t try to be always fair in the bad situation. Never give your opponent a chance to play a foul. Always be double sure before you leave. The assailant may be acting or taking a breath which you may mistake for its loss. So, train yourself to fight till the last until you win.

Be confident and apply common sense. Try not to venture out alone in late night and always be ready with a weapon (in case). Try not to get into trouble and walk out if you feel something fishy.

Following the above tips will surely boost up your confidence level and you will be ready to defend yourself against the bad ones.
