Man jumps in front of train after getting bail V Narayan , TNN, Mar 23, 2010,

MUMBAI: A 27-year-old man committed suicide by jumping in front of an express train at Mulund station early on Monday. The deceased, Kapil Patil, a resident of Navghar in Mulund (E), took the extreme step after he was released on bail by the holiday court on Sunday in a molestation case.

Patil had allegedly entered a shanty in Ambedkar Nagar slums in Mulund (E) on Friday night and molested a 13-year-old girl. “Patil said he committed the offence under the influence of alcohol. A mob thrashed him and handed him over to us but he managed to flee from the police station early on Saturday. Later in the day, he was caught and booked under Section 224 (obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) and was produced before the court,” said senior inspector Shrimant Gule. Patil returned to his Mulund residence in the afternoon and stepped out in the evening. When Patil did not return home till late night, his parents lodged a missing complaint. Two hours later, the Kurla GRP got in touch the Navghar police after they found Patil’s body.

Patil’s parents have alleged that their son took the extreme step after he was arrested by the police. However, Gule said, “We have not framed the deceased in any case. He was caught red-handed by the people.” A police officer said that Patil was caught several times in the past for allegedly entering the same girl’s house and molesting her.
